The Oratorio Society of New York (OSNY) is one of the oldest music organizations in the United States and has become the New York standard for great choral performance.Founded in 1873 by Leopold Damrosch, the association played an important role in the musical life of the city. In its early years, the Society established a fund to finance the building of a new concert hall, a cause the Society's fifth president, Andrew Carnegie, took seriously. In 1891, under the leadership of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, the Society helped open this new music hall, which was renamed Carnegie Hall a few years later.

The Society continues to perform at Carnegie Hall several times each season.His annual performances of Handel's worksMessiah, a tradition unbroken since 1874, has become a holiday favorite with the New York public.In addition to his collaborations with the New York Philharmonic andThe Orchestra of Saint LukeAmong other performing arts institutions, the Society performs internationally every few years - including recent concerts in Japan, Uruguay, Germany, Italy and Brazil.

The Society is also committed to commissioning and promoting new works, most recently the work of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Paul Moravecsanctuary away, recording available from Naxos Records.

The OSNY membership consists of amateur and professionally trained singers and non-singing members. Mock exams take place twice a year at the beginning of the fall and winter semesters.OSNY is a 501c3 non-profit organization governed by a volunteer board of directors with professional music staff.

Kent Tritle is one of America's leading choral conductors. The New York Times called him "the brightest star in the world of New York choral music". He is the director of cathedral music and organist at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. Music Director of the Oratorio Society of New York, the Grammy-nominated volunteer choir; and music director of Musica Sacra, New York's elite professional choir.

Kent is a member of the Juilliard School's graduate faculty. Kent Tritle is also an acclaimed organ virtuoso and organist with the New York Philharmonic.

Highlights of the 2022-2023 season include two world premieres:A nation of others, a new oratorio for six soloists, choir and orchestra by Paul Moravec and Mark Campbell about the arrival of immigrants on Ellis Island in 1921, with the Oratorio Society of New York at Carnegie Hall, and a setting of the Stabat Mater for organ, Soloists , Chorus and Orchestra by David Briggs at the Cathedral of St John the Divine. Kent also manages Robert PatersonsWhitmans Amerika(2016) and Bach's Mass in B Minor with the Oratorio Society; Music from 14th century England and France and a program of music by women composers from over five centuries with Musica Sacra; and "Venice: City of Light", a collaboration with Rose of the Compass, holiday programs and two organ recitals at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Kent also directs his annual performances of Handel's worksMessiah, met Musica Sacra en de Oratorio Society of New York, in Carnegie Hall.

Kent's recent notable performances include: at the Cathedral of St John the Divine, Verdi's Requiem, Mahler's "Symphony of a Thousand" and Britten'swar requiemperformed by the Oratorio Society of New York and the Manhattan School of Music's Symphony and Symphonic Chorus; and with the Cathedral Choir the New York premiere of Einojuhani Rautaavara by the Cathedral Choirwaken(described by Opera News as "a choral concert for all ages"). Featuring Musica Sacra, world premieres of music by Juraj Filas, Michael Gilbertson and Robert Paterson and a critically acclaimed performance by RachmaninoffNight Watch. And with the Oratorio Society of New York, the world premieres of the oratorio by Paul Moravec/Mark Campbellsanctuary away(whose recording received a Grammy nomination) and Juraj FilasLied Salomos, and Mozart's arrangement of Handel's workMessiah.

Kent has created high-profile collaborations for his groups with other major players in the New York music scene and has led the Manhattan School of Music Symphonic Chorus for performances of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with the New York Philharmonic, conducted by Alan Gilbert. Musica Sacra for the live score performances of the New York Philharmonic2001: A space odyssey, also directed by Gilbert, andClose Encounters of the Third Kind; and the Oratorio Society of New York for Beethovenmassawith the Orchestra of St. Luke's conducted by Sir Roger Norrington and the Carnegie Hall 125th Anniversary Gala. He also chaired the Make Music New York festival's Mass Appeal Mass for three years, including the 2012 Times Square premiere of a work by Philip Glass.

Known as a master clinician, Kent Tritle teaches conducting and repertoire workshops; He conducts annual choir workshops at the Amherst Early Music Festival and in recent years workshops at Berkshire Choral International, Summer@Eastman and the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, among others. As director of choral activities at the Manhattan School of Music from 2008 to 2022, Kent founded the school's first choral conducting doctoral program. He has been a member of the faculty of The Juilliard School since 1996 and is currently conducting a graduate internship in oratorio in conjunction with the school's vocal arts department.

In more than 150 concerts theSacred Music in Sacred SpaceFrom 1989 to 2011, Kent Tritle conducted the choir and orchestra of St. Ignatius of Loyola in a wide repertoire of sacred works, from Renaissance masses and masterpieces of oratorios to world premieres by notable living composers. of the highlights of the New York concert scene. From 1996 to 2004, Tritle served as Music Director of the Emmy-nominated Dessoff Choirs. From 2010 to 2014, Kent hosted The Choral Mix with Kent Tritle, a weekly program dedicated to the vibrant world of choral music on WQXR in New York City.

As an organ recitalist, Kent Tritle performs regularly in Europe and the United States; Concert venues included the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Tonhalle in Zurich, the Church of St. Sulpice in Paris, the Hofkirche in Dresden, King's College in Cambridge, Westminster Abbey and St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. He played Saint-Saëns with the Philharmonikerorgan symphonyconducted by Lorin Maazel, Andrew Davis, Antonio Pappano and David Robertson and included BrahmsA German Requiem, Britainwar requiemand Henze's Symphony No. 9, all conducted by Kurt Masur, as well as the Grammy nomineeSweeney Todddirected by Andrew Litton. Kent Tritle's discography includes over 20 recordings on the Telarc, Naxos, AMDG, Epiphany, Gothic, VAI and MSR Classics labels. Recent releases include the 2018 Grammy-nominated world premiere of Paul Moravec/Mark Campbell's oratoriosanctuary awaywith the Oratorio Society of New York; the performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 8, the organ choir version by David Briggs in 2016 andEternal Reflections: Choral Music by Robert Patersonwith Musica Sacra were praised by NPR Music, Gramophone and The American Organist.

Kent is the recipient of the 2020 Michael Korn Founders Award from Chorus America for the advancement of the professional choral arts. Other recent accolades include the 2017 Distinguished Achievement Award from Career Bridges and the 2016 President's Medal for Distinguished Service from the Manhattan School of Music. Kent serves on the advisory boards of the Choral Composer/Conductor Collective (C4) and the Clarion Music Society and was honored at the 2016 Clarion Annual Gala.

Kent Tritle holds master's and bachelor's degrees in organ playing and choral conducting from the Juilliard School. He was featured on ABC World News Tonight, National Public Radio and Minnesota Public Radio, as well as The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. About OSNY - Oratoriovereniging van New York (2)The assistant conductor of the Oratorio Society, David Rosenmeyer, conducted the performances of the Oratorio at Carnegie Hall of Stravinsky's Mass and Fauré'sLied van Jean Racine, BritainTe Deum in C, and the chamber orchestra in Brittenswar requiem. He is also musical director of the Fairfield County Chorale and production of "The sound of music. He also served as a staff member at Mannes College of Music and worked as a conductor and singing teacher at the International Vocal Arts Institute in Tel Aviv.

Sir. Rosenmeyer began his conducting career as a guest conductor with major orchestras across South America, including the National Symphony Orchestra of Argentina, the Concepcion Symphony Orchestra of Chile, the Festival do Curitiba Orchestra of Brazil and the Teatro Colon Orchestra in Buenos Aires. . . . He also conducted the Israeli Chamber Orchestra and orchestras in Hungary, Italy and Brazil.

David Rosenmeyer was born in Argentina and began his studies in Israel, where he spent much of his childhood. After returning to Argentina, he studied choral conducting at the JJ Castro Conservatory of Music and orchestral conducting at the UCA. He received master's degrees in conducting and music theory from Mannes College of Music and received the Felix Salzer Award and a fellowship from the Joyce Dutka Foundation.

Rong Zhang

About OSNY - Oratoriovereniging van New York (3)Born in Shanghai, Rong Zhang is a musicology student in choral conducting at the Manhattan School of Music. She received a Bachelor of Music cum laude from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, a Master of Music and a Graduate Diploma in Choral Conducting from the New England Conservatory. During her time at the NEC, she studied with Erica Washburn, regularly conducted the NEC Chamber Singers and Concert Choir, and was assistant to William Drury at the NEC Symphonic Winds.

Rong has appeared as a guest conductor with the Navy Band Northeast, MIT Acapella Group, Shanghai Opera House Chorus, and Shanghai University for Science and Technology Chorus. In addition to her conducting experience, Rong is also a trained pianist and won first prize at the Hong Kong International Piano Competition.

Amir Farid

About OSNY - Oratoriovereniging van New York (4)US-born Iranian-Australian pianist Amir Farid, winner of the 2006 Australian National Piano Award, has been described as "an exceptionally creative musician – a pianist of great intelligence and integrity". Based in both Melbourne and New York City, Amir has performed as a solo recitalist, concert soloist and community artist in concert halls and festivals around the world, including Carnegie Hall, St. Martin in the Fields, the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center and at Al- Hashemi-II in Kuwait and other locations in Canada, Germany, Switzerland, New Zealand and China.

Concert collaborations include tenor Ian Bostridge, sopranos Greta Bradman and Siobhan Stagg, baritone Wolfgang Holzmair, and many instrumental soloists. A chamber musician, Amir is the pianist of the Benaud Trio, which won the 2005 Piano Trio Prize at the Australian Chamber Music Competition, and is the pianist of the Exponential Ensemble in NYC. He has also recorded for Steinway & Sons' Spirio catalog as part of the piano manufacturer's revolutionary player-piano system.

Amir studied with Ronald Farren-Price, Andrew Ball, Geoffrey Tozer, Rita Reichman and Timothy Young at the Royal College of Music, the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and the Australian National Academy of Music.
